What Makes a Good Reading?
What should you expect when scheduling a
"reading" with a psychic? Following are some general guidelines.
All good readings have several things in common.
First, the reader or psychic should allow you to tape record the reading, so that you may
refer to it at your leisure, at some later date. Second, you should be given some kind of
guarantee. Typically, guarantees allow you some period of time to determine whether you
feel the reading was or was not worth the money. If you don't feel you got your money's
worth, you will usually have the option at that time to either receive your money back or
have the reading re-done. Third, the reader's office or home should be clean and neat.
It is important to be clear about what you want to
know in a reading. Make a list of questions you want answered before visiting the psychic.
Save the list until the end of the session. If you feel an important area hasn't been
covered, bring it up! A psychic can't work in a vacuum, we need a little feedback, too! If
the reader is accurate (as far as you know), then tell him so. If you feel he is on the
wrong track, speak up. Of course, what you thought you wanted to discuss may never come
up. The issue you asked about may never develop or die out. If a psychic is getting strong
perceptions about some other area, he will let you know. When faced with such a situation,
I will often say, "I don't see it that way. I think this or that is more
important." Expect to be surprised.
How much of a part should you play in a reading? The
most important thing is to be a good listener. Don't interrupt too often. Psychics work
from a flow of ideas, from often fleeting impressions. We have to concentrate to maintain
that flow. If there are too many breaks, information gets lost.
Don't take what your psychic says as gospel! You can
have great influence over future events. The idea is to avoid pitfalls. Accidents or
unpleasant incidents seen in a reading don't have to happen. Through awareness and
alertness, you can alter your direction, so that the "future" a psychic foresaw
may never come to pass, since you've changed the present.
Unfortunately, not all readers are genuine psychics;
be careful! There are a lot of people out there who want to lighten your purse. In
addition to the hints I've already given, some further advice may help keep you from being
"duped" by a fraudulent reader.
Don't believe the routine about someone doing evil
against you or a curse being placed on you. Anytime a "psychic" tells you such
alarmist nonsense, go directly to the police and report him as the fraud he is. Remember,
you are free to end a reading at any time.
An example I've heard a lot recently concerns
"curses." Clients will often ask, "Do I have a curse on me? I went to a
psychic and she said, 'Someone is working evil against you but I can help you. Give me
ninety dollars (or some such outrageous price) and come back next week.'" The other
most often heard pitch is, "For thirty dollars I will burn a candle for you."
(Robert, explain what that means.)
Don't believe a word of it. The only person working
evil against you is someone who would try to tell you such nonsense. NOBODY can burn a
candle for you. That is something you have to do for yourself.
